Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital has received life-saving medicines worth nearly Tk 280 million (approximately Tk 28 crore) from the US-based humanitarian organization Direct Relief.

The medicines, which arrived on Thursday morning, will be distributed free of charge among eligible patients admitted to the hospital.

According to hospital spokesperson Dr. Shankar Kumar Biswas, the shipment includes 696 syringes of the biologic drug Adalimumab, widely used in the treatment of several chronic and complex diseases.

The medicines will be provided to patients suffering from laboratory-confirmed Ankylosing Spondylitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and other serious conditions.

The initiative was made possible through the efforts of Professor Dr. Md. Azizul Haque Azad of the Department of Medicine at Rajshahi Medical College. He will also oversee the selection of patients eligible to receive the treatment.

Direct Relief is an international humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance worldwide. Rather than offering cash aid, the organization directly supplies medicines and healthcare equipment to ensure effective and timely support for patients.

Earlier this year, in March, RAMEC Hospital received medicines worth around Tk 100 crore through Dr. Azad’s efforts. The hospital also received medicines worth Tk 36 crore in November 2025 and specialized cardiac medicines worth Tk 17 crore in August 2025.

Professor Dr. Azizul Haque Azad expressed gratitude to the hospital administration and the Directorate General of Drug Administration for their support, noting that thousands of patients are benefiting from access to advanced treatment at no cost.
