Kosovo Parliament Suspended After Opposition Lawmaker Throws Eggs at Acting PM

Kosovo’s parliament has been suspended after an opposition lawmaker threw eggs at acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti during a parliamentary session.

The incident took place on Saturday (August 8), when Timea Kadrija, a lawmaker from the conservative opposition Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), shouted “Shame on you!” during Kurti’s speech before throwing several eggs at him.

Following the incident, Kurti said that if continuing the political dialogue meant facing such situations, he was prepared to pay that price.

Kurti’s left-wing Vetevendosje (VV) party has also previously made headlines for disrupting parliamentary proceedings. In 2018, members of the party fired tear gas inside the chamber, following similar incidents in 2015.

The disruption comes amid an ongoing political crisis in Kosovo. Kurti is seeking sufficient support from opposition parties to pave the way for a new presidential election. However, despite several days of negotiations among political parties, no agreement has yet been reached.
