Abhijeet Dipke, founder of India’s Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), and two party leaders, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, have been released after being detained for nearly 24 hours. The party confirmed their release in a post on X on Saturday.

“Finally, Delhi Police was forced to release Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. Cockroaches never die,” the CJP wrote in its post.

The party had called for a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration was organised over allegations of irregularities in voter lists and the electoral process.

Dipke, Ranka and Das were detained shortly after arriving in Delhi. Their detention sparked discussion in the political arena.

Earlier, reports said at least 3,000 people had been detained in various parts of Delhi in connection with the same protest. Opposition party activists and rights campaigners were among those detained, most of whom were later released.

The release of the three CJP leaders brings their nearly 24-hour detention to an end. However, this report does not include a detailed statement from the police regarding their detention.
