Fazlur Rahman Compares Asif Nazrul to Khondaker Mostaq, Criticizes Yunus’s Tenure

Kishoreganj-4 lawmaker and freedom fighter Advocate Fazlur Rahman has criticized former interim government adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, comparing his character to that of Khondaker Mostaq Ahmed, one of the key figures involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Fazlur Rahman made the remarks in a recent interview with a national daily. He also criticized the tenure of former interim government chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Recalling his earlier positive impression of Asif Nazrul, Fazlur Rahman said he had respected him for his position in support of the Liberation War and his remarks at meetings. However, he said his perception later changed.

Referring to Asif Nazrul’s hometown in Cumilla, Fazlur Rahman compared him to Khondaker Mostaq, who was from Daudkandi. He recalled Mostaq’s public expression of grief following Bangabandhu’s death and questioned his role in the assassination. Fazlur Rahman said he saw similarities in Asif Nazrul’s character, expressing his own view during the interview.

He further said that the actions of some people during the interim government’s 18-month tenure had changed his earlier perceptions. He also raised concerns about the country’s progress and the legacy of the Liberation War.

Criticism of Dr. Yunus
Fazlur Rahman said he had once viewed Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus positively. However, he said his opinion changed after observing the interim government’s activities.

He alleged that Dr. Yunus did not protest statements by Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir concerning the history of the Liberation War. Fazlur Rahman said he therefore viewed Yunus as an encourager or architect of those positions.

He also referred to Yunus’s absence from sites associated with the Liberation War and criticized his family and Grameen-related businesses.

Calls for Investigation into Alleged Corruption
Fazlur Rahman called for investigation and legal action over alleged corruption and financial transactions involving the Secretariat during the interim government’s tenure.

He alleged that business transactions worth hundreds of crores of taka had taken place at the Secretariat. He also expressed uncertainty over whether a promise to address the matter in parliament would be followed by action.

Assessing the interim government’s tenure, Fazlur Rahman said he continued to respect Yunus as an individual but criticized his performance as a head of government. These statements reflect Fazlur Rahman’s own allegations and political assessment.
