Water Enters Gas Pipeline Beneath Buriganga River, Causing Gas Shortage and Suffering for Dhaka Residents

Residents of Dhaka are facing severe disruption in their daily lives after water entered a damaged gas pipeline beneath the Buriganga River during repair work, significantly reducing gas supply across the city.
The incident occurred while authorities were repairing a damaged gas pipeline located under the riverbed of the Buriganga River. During the repair process, water infiltrated the pipeline, creating a complex technical challenge for the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited.
As a result of this complication, gas pressure in Dhaka’s distribution network has dropped sharply. The reduced supply has caused widespread inconvenience, particularly affecting cooking and other essential household activities. Many city dwellers are struggling to carry out routine tasks due to the low gas pressure.
Titas Gas confirmed the situation in an emergency notice issued on Thursday, January 8, stating that efforts are underway to address the problem. However, until the water is fully removed from the pipeline and repairs are completed, normal gas supply across the city is expected to remain disrupted.
