PM Tarique Rahman urges citizens to work for Bangladesh envisioned by July uprising martyrs

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on every citizen to perform their responsibilities from their respective positions to build the Bangladesh envisioned by those who sacrificed their lives during the July mass uprising.

He made the call on Monday (August 10) while speaking at a ceremony held at the Cabinet Division meeting room at the Secretariat to honour the family members of Bangladesh Scouts members who were martyred during the July mass uprising and provide them with financial assistance.

The Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Sujauad Doula Sujon Mahmud briefed the media about the Prime Minister’s remarks.

Tarique Rahman said those who sacrificed their lives for the country during the Liberation War of 1971 and the 2024 mass uprising had a common goal of establishing people’s rights.

“They fought to build a Bangladesh where the basic needs of the people would be fulfilled and everyone could live in peace,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the martyrs of the July mass uprising had fought to bring about a change in the country—a change through which people’s basic rights and needs would be ensured and they would be able to live in a peaceful environment.

He said no one could repay the debt owed to those who sacrificed their lives for a noble cause.

“Ensuring the proper dignity of their sacrifice does not mean merely remembering them. Those of us who are alive must work for the country from our respective positions,” he said.

Addressing members of Bangladesh Scouts, the Prime Minister urged them to work for the country and its people.

He also called for developing a spirit of standing beside people and protecting nature and the environment. He urged the Scouts to work for public welfare and encourage others to contribute to such efforts.

At the event, the Prime Minister handed over financial assistance cheques and honourary medals to the families of 10 Bangladesh Scouts members who were martyred during the July mass uprising.

Bangladesh Scouts President Nasimul Gani called for incorporating the contributions and sacrifices of the July uprising martyrs into the national curriculum so that their role could be introduced to future generations.

Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and Labour and Employment Dr Mahdi Amin, and family members of the July uprising martyrs were present at the programme.
