Gas Supply to National Grid Rises to Over 26 Billion Cubic Feet

Gas supply to Bangladesh’s national grid has increased as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain a stable energy supply. The Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) has increased the supply of both domestically produced gas and imported liquefied natural gas (LNG).

At 4:00 pm on Tuesday (September 15), a total of 2.606 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas was supplied to the national grid, said Petrobangla Director (Operations and Mines) Engineer Md. Shoeb.

According to Petrobangla data, 1.615 bcf of the total supply came from domestic sources, while 991 million cubic feet was supplied from imported LNG.

Officials said domestic gas production is being maintained while LNG supplies are being increased as needed to improve gas availability across the national grid.

Petrobangla sources said the country’s daily gas demand is approximately 3.5 bcf. Against this demand, gas supply to the national grid was 2.3453 bcf on Monday and 2.3319 bcf on Sunday.

Tuesday’s supply was therefore 260.7 million cubic feet higher than Monday’s and 274.1 million cubic feet higher than Sunday’s.

Officials said the increased gas supply is expected to have a positive impact on gas availability for power generation, industries, fertilizer production and other key sectors.
