BNP’s 48th Founding Anniversary Celebrated in Barcelona

The 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was celebrated in Barcelona, Spain, with enthusiasm and a modest gathering organised by the Catalonia BNP.

The programme was held on Tuesday night at a restaurant in Barcelona and attended by BNP leaders and activists, members of the Bangladeshi community, journalists, representatives of civil society and expatriate Bangladeshis.

The event was chaired by Catalonia BNP President Shafiul Alam Shafi and jointly moderated by Senior Joint General Secretary Mamun Rahman and proposed Publicity Secretary Farhad Mir Rajon. The programme began with recitation from the Holy Quran.

BNP Central Joint General Secretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Spain BNP President Jamal Uddin Monir, Senior Vice-President Hemayet Khan and Acting General Secretary Abu Zafar Russell joined the programme via teleconference. Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel delivered a greeting and guidance-oriented speech. Former Bagerhat District BNP President M A Salam attended the event in person.

Among others, speakers included Catalonia BNP Senior Vice-President Abdur Razzak Liton, former mayor and lecturer Fakhrul Islam, former Joint Convener Nazrul Islam, Vice-President Tutiur Rahman, former Joint Convener Bakhtiar Rahman, Nesar Uddin, Rezaul Karim Shahid, Joint General Secretary Aktaruzzaman Mohsin, Organising Secretary Abu Shahen Talukder and Engineer Nur-e-Alam.

Leaders from different BNP units and affiliated organisations also addressed the programme, including Metropolitan BNP Convener Faisal Ahmed, Senior Joint Convener Koyes Chowdhury, Member Secretary Nurul Amin Nuru, Senior Joint Member Secretary Zahidul Islam Sumon, former Barcelona Jubo Dal President Faisal Molla, Badalona BNP Convener Sumon Dewan and Member Secretary Shipon Ahmed.

The speakers highlighted the BNP’s long political history and its association with movements for democracy and people’s rights in Bangladesh. They called on party leaders and activists living abroad to remain united and continue organisational activities.

They also stressed the importance of maintaining mutual understanding, harmony and brotherhood among BNP members abroad and working to strengthen the organisation by resolving internal differences. Speakers further called for continued participation by expatriate BNP members in efforts related to democratic rights in Bangladesh.

The programme concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony marking the BNP’s 48th founding anniversary. A large number of BNP leaders, activists and members of the Bangladeshi community attended the event.
