President Donald Trump’s Republican Party has lost control of the US Senate following the midterm elections. Democrats secured victories in four key Senate races, enabling the party to regain control of the chamber.

Voting took place on Tuesday (November 3), with vote counting and results announcements continuing on Wednesday (November 4). According to the Associated Press, Democrats won key Senate races in Texas, South Carolina, Kansas and Ohio, flipping the balance of power in the upper chamber.

Meanwhile, the contest for control of the House of Representatives remains unresolved. A party needs 218 of the 435 seats to secure a majority. With vote counting and race calls still underway, the final seat distribution may take additional time to determine.

Democratic control of the Senate could create new political challenges for the Trump administration, particularly in passing legislation, securing approval for key government appointments and implementing policy decisions. The party will have greater influence over important nominations that require Senate confirmation.

However, the outcome of the House race remains uncertain as officials continue counting ballots and announcing results.
