The US Embassy in Dhaka has stressed the importance of complying with visa conditions when travelling to the United States. Foreign nationals visiting the country who receive government assistance to cover medical expenses may be considered to have misused their visa terms. Such actions could also make them ineligible for future travel to the United States.

The embassy issued the warning in a statement posted on its verified Facebook page on Saturday, November 7.

According to the statement, foreign visitors who receive government assistance to pay for medical expenses may be considered to have violated the conditions of their visas. Those who breach visa requirements or become dependent on US public benefits may be deemed ineligible to visit the country in the future.

Earlier, in a statement issued on October 31, the embassy warned travellers to comply with their authorised period of stay in the United States.

It said visitors must leave the country by the date specified under “Admit Until Date”. The embassy also advised travellers to visit i94.cbp.dhs.gov to check the authorised duration of their stay.

In another statement issued on October 28, the embassy clarified the permitted uses of B1/B2 visitor visas. It said holders of these visas may attend business meetings and negotiate contracts in the United States. However, a different type of visa is required for employment or work in the country.

The embassy further emphasised that travellers are entirely responsible for using their visas appropriately and complying with all applicable conditions.

It advised anyone planning to travel to the United States to familiarise themselves in advance with the visa category, authorised period of stay and rules concerning the use of public benefits.
