More Than One Kilogram of Nails Removed from Over 50 Trees in Dhaka

Environmental organisation Run for Green Bangladesh has launched an initiative to protect trees and the urban environment in the capital. Under its ongoing “Project Tree Care” programme, volunteers removed more than one kilogram of iron nails from over 50 trees along the road from Agargaon to the Election Office.
Members of the organisation and volunteers took part in the programme on Friday, November 6.
Nails are often driven into trees to attach banners, posters and advertisements. This can disrupt their natural growth and pose long-term risks to their health and survival. Raising public awareness about tree protection and preventing such harmful practices are the main objectives of Project Tree Care.
Those present at the programme included Run for Green Bangladesh President Abdullah Al Mamun, General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Abir, Executive Committee Member Kawsar Hamim and other volunteers.
According to the organisation, Project Tree Care will be conducted regularly every Friday in the capital. The initiative will gradually expand to different parts of the city, where volunteers will remove nails from trees and conduct public awareness activities.
Run for Green Bangladesh believes that planting new trees alone is not enough to protect the environment; safeguarding existing trees is equally important. The organisation said it would continue the initiative with that goal in mind.
