Actors’ Association Suspends Memberships of Tanzin Tisha and Samia Othoi

The Actors’ Association of Bangladesh has suspended the memberships of actresses Tanzin Tisha and Samia Othoi over alleged breaches of the organisation’s internal disciplinary rules and their failure to comply with decisions made by its arbitration committee. Their memberships will remain suspended until further notice.
According to sources within the organisation, the Actors’ Association has an independent arbitration committee that works to resolve disputes and disagreements among performers.
In a recent case, Tanzin Tisha and Samia Othoi were asked to appear before the committee for arbitration. As part of the proposed resolution, it was decided that they would issue an apology statement and send a video message. However, the two actresses reportedly took no steps to implement the committee’s decision.
The arbitration committee subsequently sent two letters to the actresses, but received no response. Both letters were returned. Attempts to contact them by mobile phone also reportedly went unanswered. After waiting for an extended period without receiving a positive response, the committee recommended suspending their memberships.
The matter was later presented at a meeting of the association’s executive committee. After reviewing the recommendation, the committee approved it unanimously, finalising the decision to suspend the memberships of the two actresses.
The Actors’ Association said it had issued show-cause notices to both actresses on July 7, but neither responded within the stipulated timeframe. In view of this, the organisation decided to suspend their memberships indefinitely in accordance with its constitution.
To formalise the decision, separate notices of membership suspension were issued in the names of Tanzin Tisha and Samia Othoi on October 4.
The association also stated that it remains firm in maintaining discipline in performers’ workplaces and professional environments. Preserving mutual relationships, professional dignity and a harmonious atmosphere among actors is one of its key objectives.
The organisation expressed hope that mutual respect, fraternity, discipline and bonds of affection among its members—as members of the same family—would grow stronger.
