Actress Pori Moni has been dropped from an award ceremony in Chattogram following protests by journalists. She had been scheduled to attend the event on November 28, but the organisers decided not to invite her after journalists raised objections.

A member of the organising institution confirmed the decision to a news outlet on Saturday evening. The member said Pori Moni was excluded at the request of journalists.

Earlier, on November 6, Pori Moni shared a poster of an event organised by CFVA in Chattogram on her verified Facebook page, writing: “See you, dear Chattogram.”

News of her planned participation sparked anger among journalists working in Chattogram. Several people also expressed their protests on social media. At one point, a number of journalists’ organisations announced plans to boycott and resist the event. Following the protests, the organisers decided to drop Pori Moni.

Earlier, on Thursday morning, Pori Moni was involved in a heated exchange with a journalist at the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The actress and her security personnel were accused of verbally abusing and threatening the journalist.

Pori Moni and her security personnel claimed that the journalist had touched her. The journalist, however, alleged that when he tried to record a video of the actress while getting into a lift, she took away his phone and broke his tripod. The journalist later recovered his phone.

A court visitor named Sujan Chandra Moni Das was also injured during the incident at the court premises. According to allegations, his head was injured during a scuffle involving the actress’s security personnel amid attempts by journalists to take photographs and videos.

The organising institution's representative, however, did not provide further details about the decision to exclude Pori Moni.
