Bangladesh Cricket Board Reaches Out to BCCI to Rebuild Relations After Recent Tensions

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken steps to improve its strained relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), following a series of disputes that disrupted bilateral cricket engagements between the two countries.
Tensions between the boards reportedly began after Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman was excluded from the Indian Premier League (IPL). The situation worsened when Bangladesh decided not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup, citing security concerns, leading to a significant deterioration in cricketing ties.
In a recent move, the BCB sent a letter to the BCCI proposing discussions on adding new bilateral engagements beyond the already scheduled series. While confirming the communication, BCB’s cricket operations chief Nazmul Abedeen described it as part of routine coordination between the two boards.
“We have an upcoming men’s series, and there was a postponed women’s tour last year. We reached out to explore whether more engagements can be arranged in between,” he said.
The development has also been reported by multiple Indian media outlets, which view the letter as an initiative by Bangladesh to normalize relations with the BCCI. However, the Indian board has not yet issued any formal response to the proposal.
Recent disruptions highlight the strained ties. In December last year, Bangladesh’s women’s team was scheduled to tour India for a series consisting of three T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals as part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP), but the series was postponed. Similarly, India’s men’s team was expected to visit Bangladesh in September for three ODIs and three T20Is, which also did not take place due to the same issues.
The latest outreach by the BCB is seen as an effort to restore regular cricketing exchanges and stabilize relations between the two neighboring cricket boards after a period of uncertainty.
