Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that there is no alternative to sports in building a healthy, strong, and talented generation. He emphasized that sports can play the most effective role in protecting young people from drug addiction, social degradation, and excessive dependence on digital devices.
In a message issued on Friday marking the upcoming “Notun Kuri Sports” program, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of promoting sports among children and adolescents.
He said that “Notun Kuri Sports” will instill discipline, brotherhood, leadership, and teamwork among young participants—qualities that are essential for building an ideal and strong nation.
The Prime Minister noted that the government has already taken steps to ensure that talented young athletes do not face economic uncertainty in the future and can confidently pursue sports as a profession. Measures include state-sponsored sports scholarships, world-class training through Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), and improved modern facilities.
He further stated that sports are no longer just a form of entertainment or leisure activity but have become a respected and financially rewarding profession worldwide. The government is committed to establishing sports as a dignified career and ensuring financial security for athletes.
As part of this initiative, “Notun Kuri Sports” aims to identify hidden talents among children aged 12 to 14 across the country and provide them with a sustainable and professional platform.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that with proper training and nurturing, these young talents will grow into future sports stars who will represent Bangladesh on both national and international stages, raising the country’s flag high.
Inspired by the legacy of the traditional “Notun Kuri” program, this initiative seeks to further strengthen the country’s sports sector by discovering grassroots-level talent nationwide.
He also welcomed the initiative taken by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to organize the program across the country and expressed optimism that coordinated efforts from all stakeholders will bring about a transformative change in the nation’s sports arena.
