The excitement surrounding the opening night of the FIFA World Cup was overshadowed for many Bangladeshi football fans by widespread technical issues across major streaming platforms.
Users reported difficulties accessing matches through Toffee and Bioscope, citing failed logins, delayed or missing OTP verification codes, streaming interruptions, and repeated network error messages.
In a statement posted on social media, Toffee acknowledged the broadcast-related disruptions and apologized to viewers. The platform said its technical teams were working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
For Bangladeshi viewers, Toffee and Bioscope are the primary digital platforms offering World Cup coverage. Bioscope has promoted a package allowing access to all 104 tournament matches for 50 days at a subscription price of Tk 97. Meanwhile, Toffee introduced a special World Cup pass initially priced at Tk 99, with plans to increase the fee to Tk 129.
Earlier, Banglalink announced that all World Cup matches would be available live on Toffee across smartphones, laptops, and smart TVs. Similarly, Grameenphone said fans could watch matches through Bioscope as well as its MyGP and Skitto applications.
The technical disruptions on opening night have sparked criticism from subscribers, many of whom questioned whether the platforms had sufficient server capacity and infrastructure to handle the massive surge in viewership during one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
