Bangladesh Beat Sri Lanka 5-1 to Secure First Asian Games Hockey Win

Bangladesh bounced back from two consecutive defeats at the Asian Games with a convincing 5-1 victory over Sri Lanka in the men's hockey competition.

Playing in a Pool A match at the Kawasaki Juko Stadium in Japan on Thursday, Bangladesh started aggressively and took the lead in the 8th minute through Amirul Islam.

The lead was doubled in the second quarter when Ashraful Islam scored in the 16th minute. Sri Lanka responded just two minutes later, with Kushal Weerapolli finding the net to make it 2-1.

Bangladesh regained control in the third quarter. Amirul scored his second goal in the 27th minute, extending Bangladesh's advantage to 3-1. Mahbub Hossain then added another goal in the 43rd minute to make it 4-1.

The attacking pressure continued into the final quarter. Ashraful converted a penalty in the 54th minute, completing his brace and putting Bangladesh 5-1 ahead.

No further goals were scored before the final whistle as Bangladesh secured a comfortable victory.

Bangladesh End Losing Run
The victory came after Bangladesh suffered defeats against South Korea and Japan. They lost 5-0 to South Korea before going down 6-1 against hosts Japan.

After three matches, Bangladesh have three points from one win and two defeats and sit fourth in Pool A. India currently lead the pool with six points from two matches.

Two More Pool Matches Ahead
Bangladesh still have two pool matches remaining in the competition. They will face Indonesia on September 26 before taking on India on September 28.
