Several parts of Bangladesh felt tremors after three earthquakes struck areas near the India-Myanmar and Bangladesh-India border regions within a short period on Saturday night.

According to data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), a magnitude 4.9 earthquake occurred near the Myanmar-Bangladesh border at 12:12am on Sunday.

Just one minute later, at 12:13am, another earthquake measuring 5.0 in magnitude struck the Lunglei area of Mizoram, close to the Bangladesh-India border.

A third earthquake, measuring 3.8 in magnitude, was recorded in the Agartala area of Tripura at 1:27am.

Tremors from the earthquakes were reportedly felt in several parts of Bangladesh, including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Feni. Mild shaking was also reported in Dhaka and other areas following the earthquake near Agartala.

The occurrence of multiple earthquakes within a relatively short period caused concern among residents in several areas, particularly those closer to the border.

No major damage was reported immediately following the tremors.
