A 35-year-old manpower broker, identified as Md Babul Akter, was allegedly beaten to death after being called to a location in Shibganj of Chapainawabganj. Police suspect the killing may be linked to sending workers abroad and the death of a young man who reportedly went to Russia and died while fighting in the war there.

Babul was rescued in critical condition from the Kolmogara area of Daipukhuria Union on Friday night, September 4. He was taken to Chapainawabganj District Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead.

Babul Akter, son of the late Gol Mohammad of Bata village in Daipukhuria, had previously lived in Dubai and was also involved in sending people abroad for employment.

According to his family and local residents, several people from the same area, including Senarul, Bashir and Kota, allegedly called Babul from a shop near his home at around 6pm, saying they wanted to talk to him.

He was allegedly taken to the Kolmogara area, where his hands and legs were tied before he was severely beaten. He was then reportedly left there in a critical condition. Locals later rescued him and took him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Motiur Rahman said Babul had arranged for a local man to travel to Russia. The man later died while participating in the war there. Although the matter had reportedly been settled locally, tensions between the two sides remained.

The police officer said they suspect people associated with the deceased young man may have called Babul to the area and beaten him to death over the unresolved dispute.

Police have started investigating the incident and launched an operation to identify and arrest those allegedly involved. Legal proceedings are also underway.
