Indian batting star Rohit Sharma has created history by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar as the fastest batter to reach 10,000 runs in ODI cricket.

Rohit needed just two runs to reach the landmark during the third ODI against the West Indies. He achieved the milestone after facing only four deliveries in the innings.

The Indian opener reached 10,000 ODI runs in 202 innings, breaking Tendulkar’s previous record of 214 innings. Sachin had reached the landmark in 2014.

Rohit has also become only the fourth batter in ODI history to score 10,000 runs as an opener.

Before him, the feat had been achieved by Sachin Tendulkar, West Indies great Chris Gayle and Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya.

Gayle took 268 innings to reach the mark, while Jayasuriya needed 303 innings.

The latest achievement adds another major milestone to Rohit’s long and decorated ODI career, as he moves past one of Indian cricket’s greatest batting records.
