Como Make Champions League History with Stunning 9-1 Win Over Lens

Italian club Como have made a remarkable statement in their debut Champions League campaign. Cesc Fabregas's side thrashed French club Lens 9-1 away from home, setting a new record by becoming the first team to score nine goals away from home in a Champions League match.
Como played attacking football from the start of Wednesday night's match, repeatedly putting the Lens defence under pressure. Greek forward Anastasios Douvikas starred with a superb hat-trick, while Argentine youngster Nico Paz also played a key role in the attack.
Como went into the break with a 3-0 lead. The visitors added six more goals in the second half, while Ruben Aguilar scored Lens's only goal. Fabregas's side eventually secured a remarkable 9-1 victory.
Several Records in One Match
Como's victory produced several notable records in Champions League history. No team had previously scored nine goals away from home in a single match. Como became the first to achieve the feat.
The Italian side also equalled the record for the most goals scored by a team in a single match in the modern Champions League era. Bayern Munich had previously scored nine goals in a 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb at home in 2024.
However, Como's eight-goal winning margin is not an outright record. It is jointly the biggest winning margin in Champions League history, matching Liverpool's 8-0 victory over Besiktas and Real Madrid's 8-0 win against Malmo.
Como have scored 19 goals in their first four matches of the competition. That equals the record for the most goals scored by a club in its opening four matches in a major European competition. Paris Saint-Germain lead the corresponding Champions League tally with 20 goals in their first four games.
The night was even more disappointing for Lens, who suffered the heaviest defeat in the French club's European football history.
Fabregas's side have been in impressive form this season. With three wins from four matches, Como have collected nine points and sit fourth in the league-phase standings.
They had previously beaten RB Leipzig and English giants Manchester United by 4-1 margins. Only Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are currently above Como in the standings.
