Bollywood actor Dino Morea has been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in contracts for desilting Mumbai’s Mithi River.

Police reportedly questioned Morea for around eight hours at his Bandra residence on Friday before taking him into custody.

The investigation concerns alleged manipulation of the tender process for various Mithi River desilting contracts involving contractors, intermediaries and some municipal officials.

Investigators are examining allegations of questionable or false documents being submitted during the tender process, as well as claims that the quantity of sludge removed from the river was overstated. Authorities have estimated that the alleged irregularities caused losses of around Rs 65.54 crore to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Morea’s name reportedly surfaced after investigators found communication links between him and several individuals connected to the case. His financial dealings with a person identified as Ketan Kadam are also being examined.

According to a report by The Indian Express, investigators found information about multiple transactions between Morea and Kadam, involving amounts ranging from around Rs 14 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. Authorities are now trying to determine the nature of those transactions and whether they have any connection to the alleged irregularities in the Mithi River contracts.

Investigators are also examining Morea’s phone records, financial transactions and documents related to the work. The purpose is to establish whether there was any link between the actor and the alleged tender-related irregularities.

However, the available information does not establish that Morea has committed any crime. His arrest and the scrutiny of his financial transactions are part of an ongoing investigation, and the final facts will depend on the findings and subsequent official decisions by the authorities.
