Cinematographer Barkat Hossain Palash has received the ‘Mishuk Munier Memorial Award 2026’ for his cinematography in the film Nokshi Kathar Jomin.
The award was presented at a memorial event held Saturday evening at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, commemorating the late photographer and broadcast journalist Mishuk Munier. Bengal Foundation President Abul Khair handed Palash a commemorative crest along with a cash prize of Tk 100,000.
The event was jointly organized by the Lily-Munier Memorial Trust and Mishuk Munier’s family. Journalists, filmmakers, cinematographers and other members of the cultural community attended the gathering.
The program opened with a welcome speech by Tropa Majumder, followed by a documentary highlighting Mishuk Munier’s life, photography practice and professional association with filmmaker Tareque Masud.
Journalist Kurratul-Ain-Tahmina, filmmaker Aka Reza Galib and others also shared their memories and experiences of working with Mishuk Munier. Their recollections highlighted his dedication to his work, contributions to film and broadcast journalism, and warm relationships with colleagues.
As the jury members could not attend the event, Asif Munier announced Barkat Hossain Palash as the award recipient on their behalf.
While receiving the award, Palash recalled his only encounter with Mishuk Munier. He said he had seen Munier from a distance during the shooting of the film Runway, when Palash was still a university student.
Palash thanked the organizers and jury members, saying the recognition would encourage him to continue striving for better work.
He has worked as a cinematographer on numerous Bangladeshi films and web productions, including Bonolota Express, Saba, Priyo Maloti, Nokshi Kathar Jomin, Pap Punya and Jalaler Golpo. His web credits also include acclaimed productions such as Taqdeer, Karagar and Mohanagar.
Mishuk Munier, who played an important role in Bangladesh’s modern broadcast journalism and film cinematography, died in a road accident in 2011 while returning from a location visit for the film Kagojer Phool. The Mishuk Munier Memorial Award was launched in 2023 to preserve and carry forward his memory and professional legacy.
