ABG Sports City is set to achieve another milestone in promoting Bangladesh's capabilities as an international sporting destination. For the first time, Bangladesh will host the international tournament ‘Cricket for the Blind–Asia Cup 2026’, with ABG Sports City serving as the venue partner. All matches of the tournament will be played at Anvir Cricket Stadium, located within the sports complex.
The six-day tournament, scheduled for November 15–20, will feature five Asian countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Safwan Bashundhara Global (SBG) is the title sponsor, while T Sports, the country's only sports-focused television channel, is the media partner.
The participation of the host nation and the visiting teams has already generated interest among cricket enthusiasts. The tournament is expected to add a new dimension to Bangladesh's sporting landscape by promoting inclusive sports and providing visually impaired cricketers with an international platform.
ABG Sports City has already demonstrated its capabilities as a venue for international cricket. Recently, Anvir Cricket Stadium hosted a two-day preparatory match involving the national teams of Bangladesh and the West Indies. Before that, the Malaysia cricket team also played at the venue. These events have added to the sports complex's experience in hosting international cricket.
Hosting the Asia Cup for the Blind will provide ABG Sports City with another opportunity to strengthen its position in the international sporting arena.
The tournament is being organised by the Bangladesh Blind Cricket Council (BBCC), which is affiliated with World Blind Cricket Limited (WBC). The event is expected to further enhance ABG Sports City's profile as an international sporting venue and showcase its modern facilities and capacity to host international competitions.
Title sponsor Safwan Bashundhara Global has expressed its satisfaction at being associated with the international event. According to the organisation, initiatives like this are important in creating opportunities for visually impaired cricketers to demonstrate their talent and abilities on the international stage.
The organisers aim to promote international recognition for visually impaired cricketers across Asia while spreading the messages of friendship, inclusion and equality through sports. The tournament is also expected to open new opportunities for ABG Sports City to emerge as an important destination for hosting international-standard sporting events in Bangladesh.
